Tiffin Motorhomes

Tiffin Motorhomes is truly a family run business. Started by Bob Tiffin in Red Bay, Alabama – population 3200 – Tiffin runs the company with his three sons, Tim, Van and Lex, all University of Alabama graduates. It wasn’t easy building an RV manufacturing company in the northwest corner of Alabama, especially when most of the industry is situated in Indiana, but Tiffin has solved this problem by constantly staying ahead of the curve with innovations in design and technology and a do-it-yourself attitude.

While Tiffin counts Fleetwood Winnebago and Monaco as its main competitors, Director of Sales Jerry Williamson says the attention paid to the customer really sets Tiffin apart from the rest. Along with listening to customers comes innovation. The Tiffin sons not only work for the company, they are RVers themselves.

Tiffin Motorhomes is truly a family run business. Started by Bob Tiffin in Red Bay, Alabama, Tiffin runs the company with his three sons, Tim, Van and Lex. In a converted cotton warehouse in 1972, Bob Tiffin set a modest production goal of two motorhomes a day focusing on quality and customer service.

Thirty-three years later the 50,000th coach rolled off the Tiffin production line. Those early coaches, about the length of a minivan, bear faint resemblance to a present-day Zephyr, 45 feet of state-of-the-art electronics including the huge LCD TVs (living room, bedroom and outside), global positioning and satellite dish. The four slides almost double the on-road width. Three A/C units, a king-size bed, exquisite cabinetry and other crafted woodwork, plus tile and carpeted floors. Tiffin’s products, the Phaeton and Allegros, also boast many of the Zephyr's features.

"Twenty years ago a delayed shipment of windows caused the plant to close down and Tiffin decided right then and there that wouldn't happen again, so he bought a local glass plant and turned it into his own window and windshield manufacturing factory." He did the same for fiberglass and for all the woodwork. Almost everything in a Tiffin Motorhome is made by the company. That is why even if you have one of the oldest models ever made, you can still find parts you need.

While Tiffin counts Fleetwood Winnebago and Monaco as its main competitors, Director of Sales Jerry Williamson says the attention paid to the customer really sets Tiffin apart from the rest. Along with listening to customers comes innovation, the Tiffin sons not only work for the company, they are RVers themselves. When they take their own Tiffin motorhomes out on the road, they come back with new ideas and ways to make the units as “user-comfortable” as possible. One of Tiffin’s taglines is ‘Just ask someone who owns one’ and Tiffin adds, “Service is something we don’t just talk about, we do it. We just treat people like they want to be treated”. In fact, a high standard of morals and values are what motivates Bob Tiffin and his crew. His reputation is such that folks who have met or purchased from him will tell you Bob is one of the nicest, most fair, of all the businessmen they have ever met. Keeping with that desire to provide the very best customer service possible, Tiffin provides the “Allegro Campground”, located in Red Bay, AL. where the Service Center is located. The campground is just a few steps away from the service center, allowing owners to have their Tiffin taken for services during the day and returned to them in the evening, enabling them to stay in the comforts of their own “home”, whether the service takes one day or one week.

Model Year 2012:  For 2012 Tiffin’s Jerry Williamson tells us, “We continually implement improvements to our production processes. This past year we added more computerized machinery which improves our fit and finish. And we have added and improved many floor plans since 2011 model year.” Of the 2012 Allegro RED, Tiffin says, "The advantage of the Allegro RED is right there in the name: the Rear Engine Diesel (RED). The RED shares the same quality, value, and affordability as the Allegro, and then adds some important benefits: Quieter ride, increased torque and horsepower, and better fuel efficiency. And with the engine located in the back, it allows for a more spacious cab. The 2012 model pays special attention to the kitchen, with newly redesigned elements, the cooking area now functions better than ever.” The Allegro RED features a Cummins ISB 6.7-liter electronic diesel, turbocharged engine, 340 HP @ 2,600 RPM. With four available floorplans, exterior lengths range from 34'10" to 38'9". The one-piece, moisture resistant molded fiberglass roof cap provides insulation and strength, as well as preventing water leakage. With 5½" of formed insulation, the sidewalls are approximately 2” thick. With a full kitchen, skylight shower with optional bathtub, booth dinette, sofa with sleeper, and king and bunk bed options this Allegro RED has many more “feel at home” features. The Allegro RED’s MSRP starts at $198,660. Williamson adds, “We added a new floor plan to our Allegro RED brand, 38 QRA. This floor plan is a nice bath and a half model.”

Once again Tiffin has improved their Phaeton, the nation's top-selling diesel pusher for the past three years. Tiffin adds, “Since 2011, we have added two floor plans to Phaeton line up, a 40 QBH bath and a half floor plan and a 40 QKH, a bunk model.” The 2012 Phaeton, like the Allegros, has side cameras integrated into the VelVac rearview mirrors; a redesigned driver’s console for added convenience; a distinctive wood and wrought iron ceiling trim ring; Rustic Canyon, a new exterior color scheme; and two new interiors, the Capri and Palmetto. While Phaetons come in 36, 40 and 42-foot lengths, the longest of the trio now boasts an ISL 400hp engine. The 40-foot, 380-hp diesel pusher comes with bunk beds in addition to a bedroom with either king- or queen-size bed. The bunk beds are on one of the four slides, providing plenty of space to move around and are on the driver’s side, opposite the bed in the master bedroom, providing a unique front-to-rear open coach view. A more functional bath layout adds to the appeal. The Phaeton 40QKH is available on either a Freightliner or Tiffin’s own PowerGlide chassis. The MSRP, depending on chassis, runs from $248,200 to $254,100.

In addition for 2012 Tiffin states;

  • Considering Allegro Bus, we added a 40 QBP, bath and a half floor plan.
  • The Allegro gas models 30 GA and 32 CA replaced the old 30 and 32 models. The new models include improved larger fresh water tanks, holding tanks, and pass through basement storage.
  • For our newest brand, the Allegro Breeze, we have added a 32 BR model which includes 2 slideouts, a full bedroom, bathroom, and galley area. Allegro Breeze is our fuel efficient rear engine diesel brand designed for ease of handling and driving, while still delivering a luxury coach.
  • We have yet to introduce our 2012 Zephyr model. We will see an all new product here when it hits the streets sometime around the first of the year. (2012)

Model Years 2010-2011: The Phaeton series is still the best-selling diesel motorhome in the United States according to Tiffin. In addition to the Cummins ISC engine used in the Phaeton, a one-piece, moisture resistant molded fiberglass roof cap provides insulation and strength and prevents water intrusion.  Tiffin also offers the Allegro (front engine gas motorhome), the Allegro Red (rear engine diesel), and the Allegro Bus. The Allegro still remains Tiffin’s most popular gas motorhome. All new for Tiffin is the 2011 Allegro Breeze. The 28-foot Allegro Breeze was as “Best of Show” by the RVBusiness staff during the recent 47th Annual National RV Trade Show. The Breeze is just now being shipped out to dealers, all together brand new, with one floorplan; a very unique product as it features air ride and air brakes. The Breeze is built on a 21,500-pound GVWR chassis equipped with a 215-hp Navistar MaxxForce 7 V-8 engine. Interior features are so numerous we can only sum them up as “luxurious”. MSRP begins at $158,000.
