Which RV Model is the Best?

Are you planning to purchase a new or used RV? This article will help you determine the best approach for selecting the right RV, (recreational vehicle) for you and your family. The first decision that needs to be made is which type of RV I should buy? This is the most common question asked by buyers. There are six different classifications of RVs:

  1. Class A Motorhomes
  2. Class C Motorhomes
  3. Class B Motorhomes
  4. Fifth Wheels
  5. Travel Trailers
  6. Campers

When trying to determine which type of motorized RV is best, one approach is to test drive each model. Take the unit out on the freeway to see how it handles at high speeds. Spend some time backing the RV unit up to see how difficult it is. Another approach is to rent a unit and spend a week on the road to determine if the RV meets your travel needs and driving habits. The RV rental business is a huge business and there are many RV rental companies in each state to choose from.

Selecting a travel trailer or fifth wheel can be more difficult because you can’t take them on a test drive. The best advice I can give you is to spend a couple of hours in the unit of your choice. Check how the toilet seat feels - is the shower stall large enough. Fold the benches down and see if the bed space is adequate. The more time you spend in the trailer better the chances are that you’ll know if it’s right for you.

The next big decision for most RV buyers is should I buy new or used? New RVs can be bought according to the features you want to see in your vehicle. You can even customize them according to your standards. Everything depends on your budget - you can save a significant amount of money by buying a used unit. On average a used RV will depreciate up to 50% within five years.

On the other hand 2008 has been a bad year for the RV industry. Shipment levels are 35% less compared to last year and many RV dealers have huge inventories, bottom line it’s a buyer’s market right now.

It is always a good idea to do some research before you buy. You can spend some time on the internet as there are many websites and blogs which are devoted to RVs. I have also gone through some blogs which review the latest RV units. These reviews can help you a lot in selecting the right RV model according to your needs and desire. One website in particular I found rated all the RV manufacturers and best selling models in North America. The company is J R Consumer Resources Inc. Their website is http://www.jrconsumer.com/. They even offer a FREE RV Resource Guide that contains important buying tips.

The RV lifestyle is a rewarding one with unlimited possibilities. RVs are more affordable than ever with new technologies and innovative features. Happy RVing!
