Carriage RV Reviews by JR Consumer Resources
Carriage Manufacturing, facing the closure of its factory (2011), approached EverGreen with a business opportunity that fit the EverGreen’s strategic plans. According to EverGreen CEO Michael Schoeffler, “Basically they made a presentation that really fits the mold of what we’re trying to do with EverGreen, with the quality, with the green (segment) and the integrity, and had some good product design activities, and they were in the high-end fifth wheel, and it matched our strategic plan.” By teaming up with personnel from the former Carriage RV, the EverGreen RV is able to move ahead the production plan of a luxury fifth wheel by as much as a year, year and a half.
Lifestyle Luxury RV will be a separate division, operated by mostly former Carriage employees under Evergreen RV.
Carriage Inc. was founded in 1968 by three partners who soon began building in Millersburg, Indiana, where Carriage has manufactured high-end fifth wheels for over 42 year. 1998 Carriage was purchased by Glenn Cushman, who continued the company’s goal, “To build as much as possible ourselves.” He also continued the company’s philosophy, “To build a quality fifth wheel unit, not quantity mass-produced units.” Beyond All Expectations is the company’s tag line.
Carriage’s first products were two lines of travel trailers, the Carriage and the Rolls International. Fifth wheels had not been invented yet, but even so, it was obvious that early on any RV that had Carriage's name on it was considered well-built and reliable. “We built our last travel trailer in the 2005 model year and have focused strictly on our 4 lines of high-end fifth wheels ever.”
