Advantages: Travel trailers are very affordable costing $19,000 to $75,000 on average. They come in many different floorplans to accommodate anyone’s travel needs. Light-weight trailers are easy to tow and don’t require a large truck, which allows RV buyers to use their existing SUV or small truck. Most travel trailers can sleep up to six people and there is adequate storage for your belongings. Once at your favorite destination you can unhitch your tow vehicle and travel to local sites, restaurants or travel to town for supplies.
Disadvantages: Travel trailers can be overloaded and exceed weight limits set by the manufacturer, which can cause undo stress on the structure. You cannot travel in the trailer while it is being towed this is illegal, which may be a problem for large families. Travel trailers are not typically designed for full-time use. Appliances, showers and plumbing fixtures are not adequate for full-time use. If you plan to travel long distances or spend three months or longer in your RV you may want to consider a Class C Motorhome or a Fifth Wheel. There are luxury travel trailers available for such use, but they will cost more. Travel trailers have limited storage space and this can be a problem for some.
