Which Type of Motorhome is Right for You?

There are basically four distinct classes of motorhomes:

1. Bus Conversion (Very high end costing $500,000 and up)

2. Class A Motorhome (Luxury and stylish)

3. Class C Motorhome (Affordable and family friendly)

4. Class B Motorhome (Small, fuel efficient and for limited use)

A bus conversion is a custom built motorhome. They are expensive and vary in style and design depending on how much a person wants to spend. Normally costing $500,000 and up. There are only a handful of manufacturers that produce this type of product. Bus conversions appeal to discriminating buyers that want the best of the best.

A Class A motorhome is built on a custom designed truck chassis where the driving compartment is an integral part of the RV interior. Class A motorhomes looks like a bus with a flat front end from top to bottom. They range in size from 30 to 45 feet in length. Class A motorhomes are generally considered the luxury class of motorhome, and the prices of these units can range from $80,000 to over a million dollars. People considering this type of motorhome usually travel two months or more during the year.

Class C motorhomes are often a cab-over configuration with a sleeping area above the cab. Class C motorhomes have become popular with consumers because they cost less compared to a Class A motorhome and they tend to be more fuel efficient. The size of these vehicles has also grown, and now you can get a Class C RV to rival the dimensions of a Class A. The accommodations in some high-end Class C motorhomes compare to Class A motorhomes.

Class B motorhomes is the least defined class in the RV industry, sometimes defined as a “camper van or small conversion van.” Class B motorhomes can range from an old VW Westphalia van to the latest conversion of a large van, which can still be classified as a “van.” These types of motorhomes are forging ahead with slide-outs and features which used to be only available in Class C motorhomes.
