Class C motorhomes are sometimes referred to as mini-motorhomes, which are scaled-down versions of Class A motorhomes. They range in weight from 10,000 to 15,000 pounds and stretch from 20 feet to 35 feet in length. Class C motorhomes are generally constructed on a van chassis. The driver compartment is similar to a van, with a large box in the back. Class C motorhomes are usually equipped with a sleeping bunk above the cab, in addition to a bedroom in the rear of the unit. Like Class A motorhomes, Class C units typically feature a slideout to quickly extend the motorhome's living space.
Shower, sleeping, dining and cooking facilities are built in and raised roofs, as well as dropped floors available in many models, allows full stand-up room inside, yet the overall package is still compact enough to fit in a normal parking space.
Because the overall length is comparable to a large van or pickup truck, it's not as intimidating to drive as a Class A coach. They typically offer more flexibility than their big cousins. Most notably in today’s gas crisis, they are easier on the pocketbook at the gas pump. In fact, some owners use their Class B van as a second vehicle year round.
Prices for "mini motorhomes" (class C’s) start at around $60,000 and climb from there, depending on the base production van as well as the amenities added in the conversion. Thus, class C’s offer most of the amenities you look for in a motorhome without the higher price tag.
