Lower gas prices: Could it help struggling RV industry?
Across the country consumers are enjoying the drop in gas prices during the last few weeks. It was more than four-dollars a gallon this summer, but gas is now around $1.60 in most states. According to industry experts they are predicting oil prices to hit $25.00 per barrel and gas prices at the pump could go down to $1 per gallon, wouldn't that be nice?
It has some wondering if these falling prices will have an effect on the struggling RV industry. Those in the RV business say the price drop has been a big help and if gas continues to drop it will have a huge impact on the positive side. As you may know, local RV factories have laid off hundreds of workers this summer. Shipment levels are off by more than 30% this year compared to last year. While this is a big negative it has produced some amazing buying opportunities.
RV dealers are slashing their prices to move old inventory and many RV buyers are reporting discounts as low as 5% over dealer cost and in some cases, just a few hundred dollars over invoice.
One RV buyer put it this way, "I never thought I see a $1.50 per gallon, just a few months ago I thought $3 per gallon was a bargain. With gas prices falling so dramatically and RV dealers offering large discounts my husband and I decided to take the plunge and purchase an RV. We found the perfect Class C Motorhome discounted over 28% from MSRP at only 6.99% interest. Our payments were $175 lower than expected and we now have a great RV that costs much lest to fill up at the pump. Great buying opportunity exists for buyers today."
With low gas prices and dealers offering large discounts now is the best time to purchase an RV. But don't rush out the door without doing your research first.
