Airstream Taps SURV Market with PanAmerica

Airstream Inc. has combined aspects of its Classic travel trailer and the modernistic International CCD floorplan to create the 34-foot, triple-axle PanAmerica sport utility travel trailer (SURV), a first for the Jackson Center, Ohio, manufacturer.

The PanAmerica debuted recently as a concept vehicle at the 45th Annual National RV Trade Show in Louisville, Ky., and may go into production sometime in the spring for the 2009 model year, according to Airstream President Bob Wheeler. “We took it to Louisville as a concept to get feedback from our dealers,” Wheeler said.

“It was thumbs up almost across the board.” The PanAmerica, with an 11-foot garage, two base cabinets and two overhead cabinets, features the iconic Airstream Classic aluminum shell on a reinforced chassis complemented by the aluminum interior and recessed lighting of the International CCD.

“The PanAmerica is going for a different segment of the toy hauler crowd,” Wheeler said. “This is for sophisticated touring for a couple or small family.” MSRP: high $70,000s.
